Sycamore Display Typeface

“Sycamore” is a display typeface I designed inspired by the organic shapes and patterns found in nature, specifically in cross-sections of trees. I find beauty in the irregularity of nature, and I wanted to reflect that in the typeface. I drew each character one at a time and intentionally created the tree rings with varying line weights and spacing. When designing this typeface, I wanted to explore the concept of using type as an image rather than just being something functional. While this typeface could be used more traditionally for short titles and headings, the ideal use would be a visual element in a larger composition.
