The Perry Photojournalism Challenge is an annual contest held by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The first 20 undergraduate students from the college to register are selected to compete, and the photo stories they create are judged by a panel of industry professionals. As a senior at the CoJMC, I was selected to design the logo, branding, and social media graphics for the 2022 competition.

The theme for the 2022 competition was “life after.” The phrase “life after” can hold many meanings, especially coming out of a global pandemic. However, my goal was to keep what I thought the theme could represent from influencing my design and leave the interpretation to the photographers competing in the competition. I went for a minimalist design, focusing on the word “after” and its sense of time and transition, which I simply conveyed through a diagonal line, suggesting forward movement.
